1. any container or place used to put things in to keep them conveniently. Bags, baskets, and vaults are all receptacles.
2. the stalklike part of a flower that bears the sepals, petals, stamens, and pistils: »

3. a socket or outlet into which a plug can be inserted to make an electrical connection.
